Brilliance Academy Wellness Policy (BAWP)

Effective Date: July 1, 2026

 

1. Leadership & Public Involvement

• Official Responsible: The School Principal (or designee) will oversee compliance and implementation of this policy.

• Public Participation: Brilliance Academy invites parents, students, physical education teachers, school health professionals, board members, administrators, and the general public to participate in the development, implementation, and periodic review of this policy.

 

2. Nutrition Standards (NSLP & Smart Snacks)

• School Meals: All meals served through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) will meet or exceed USDA nutrition requirements. Free drinking water is available to all students during mealtimes.

• Competitive Foods: All foods and beverages sold to students on campus during the school day (vending, school stores, fundraisers) must meet USDA Smart Snacks standards.

• Classroom Food: The academy encourages healthy choices for classroom rewards and celebrations. Food will not be withheld as a punishment.

 

3. Wellness & Physical Activity Goals

• Nutrition Education & Promotion: Nutrition concepts will be integrated into the curriculum, and healthy food choices will be actively promoted through cafeteria messaging.

• Physical Activity: Students will receive regular physical education and daily recess opportunities. Teachers are encouraged to provide short physical activity breaks during class.

 

4. Marketing & Public Updates

• Food Marketing: Only foods and beverages that meet USDA Smart Snacks standards may be marketed or advertised on the school campus during the school day.

• Policy Access: The current policy is available to the public via the school website.

• Triennial Assessment: The school will evaluate compliance with this policy at least once every three years and share the progress reports publicly.
